J.A.D. Eclectic Coffee table with rotating top. Powder coated cast iron, slate and yew.

SLATE VALVE

Reclaimed Industrial Valve Coffee Table with Slate and Yew Inserts

An extremely heavy coffee table with rotating top made from an industrial valve.. Infill on the table top is reclaimed oiled slate with a yew spindle.

We love vibrant primary colours but the environmental impact of paint has bothered us. Then, we discovered powder coating……  As horrific as it sounds it’s actually THE most Eco-friendly way of painting metal. No fumes, very little waste and people/ animal friendly to everyone involved in the process or nearby.  It also has a fantasist durability and life span. Wonderful.

The body and wheel of the valve are therefore zinc and powder coated inside and out as bright as we could go. Extremely durable and a good few years of life wherever you drink coffee (or wine)….. inside your home or Al-fresco.

The slate inserts are hand carved from natural slate floor tiles, heavy and durable with a Danish oil finish to enhance their natural beauty. (No, they don’t feel oily and are extremely easy to maintain) Outside use or wiping them over with water a good few times will take them back to a flat and slightly paler finish. That’s your choice, it’s equally lovely. We recommend not hitting the slate with a lump hammer and chisel, but other than that it will be fine…..

The table top (originally the wheel of the valve which rotates as it always has….) on a yew spindle.

SLATE VALVE will sit beautifully anywhere. It is pretty heavy so please be sure your floor is strong.

Inside or out, this piece will support the diverse drinking habits of many generations to come….

IN A PAST LIFE….

The base and wheel were a 10 inch valve used for streaming endless tons of sugar syrup around a British Sugar factory. Industrial waste from a refurbishment of what was the original 1920’s pipelines, we rescued 5 valves which are actually quite beautiful in their own right.

The slate was cut from reclaimed heavy slate floor tiles.

The yew was dead wood cut from a yew tree that is thought to be over 1000 years old…..

This table matches the SHOU SUGI BAN VALVE and the NATURAL VALVE….. but in a different colour and a different infil….. (That’s 3 of the 5 valves by the way)

Approximate Measurements 48 cm diameter and 40 cm high. The diameter of the base plate is approximately 34 cm.
