TWIST
Sandstone Sculpture
Twist is a rather soulful and somehow sensual limestone sculpture based on the Polynesian symbol that denotes the evolution and binding of life through generations.
Carved from a reclaimed 13th Century church doorstep in North Norfolk, this piece is steeped in history and blends beliefs across time, cultures and continents. It’s an incredibly special and provocative experience being in the possession of a stone that has had almost 900 years of footsteps pass over it.
The back face of Twist was originally the underneath of the doorstep and has been left with its original markings where someone had chased it flat nearly 1000 years ago.
We would recommend that if placed outside, it should be buried a little into the ground for stability. Inside it will sit on any even surface.
IN A PAST LIFE…
Twist was once the 13th Century doorstep of Thurne Church in North Norfolk. It was removed during the church’s restoration in 2017 and was going to be broken down to rubble and thrown to land fill.
