New tricks and powder coating

Bell Housings! Beautiful bits of 1920’s engineering. Part of 10″ gate valves that had good old liquid British sugar running through them. 1 original and 2 just returned from the lovely people at Madtercote powder coaters complete with powder coating. (Can’t resist stating the obvious….)
POWDER COATING as our new friend
Most of our paint, where we use it, comes out of skips or people who know what we’re up to (and don’t want the hassle of taking their waste to the tip- laziness is EXCELLENT for us! However, sometimes things need a much more durable finish that enhances the resurrection and preservation of what we’ve resurrected and preserved. It’s always presented a problem for us because of the environmental impact of most if not all paints, even when we use up people’s waste.
BUT, this is our saviour!
If you didn’t know, powder coating uses some weird electrickery stuff to bind colour to a surfaces. No fumes, little waste, no harm to man nor beast and we get a luscious finish in the colour of our choice for the occasional thing that needs that little bit extra. We also keep our conscience and stay happy. (There’s an irony, ‘Conscience I just noticed breaks down as con-science. Now there’s a thing….)
Anyway, back to tricks, we have plenty up our sleeves so watch this space and see what we have planned for our lovely bright shiny things. New processes that have intrigued us. These valves are nearly 100 years old, it’s a wonderful thing to think that we could maybe make them last for another 100 years in a new form. (They were going for scrap believe it or not.)Â 1920- 2018 and then 2018 to 2116? Wow!! That has seriously made the old cogs whizz round……
