STRUMPSHAW TREE FAIR 2018

This is right up our tree, so to speak…..

Strumpshaw in the beautiful heart of Norfolk will uncover a whole heap of traditional arts and crafts in the style of a good old fashioned country fair.

This one however, is different……

There’s a certain je-ne-sais-quoi missing from the new batch of fairs, and I’m talking about the new pay to enter festivals that have developed from the old festival and travellers meet ups. We all know that commercialism pays the bills, but this one brings back some good old traditional things, traditional country crafts and a bit of that long lost magic that was embedded in the travelling lifestyle. It’s also located at the home of East Anglia’s best steam collection so bygones galore.

Gypsy Wagons and wooden spoons

Have a go at all sorts of things or just take a back seat and watch. We’re looking forward to seeing the Gypsy wagons, it’s something we have a mind to build, because we can….. They’re an excuse for intricacy and ornate in abundance and a whole load of skilfulness rolled into one. Forget whatever racist rubbish and horror stories that the tabloids throw at you, Gypsy life was never about being dirty and aggressive and dishonest. It just wasn’t and isn’t. The press and idle, dissatisfied tongues have a lot to answer for….. But that’s a whole subject on its own.

REGARDLESS, if you’re looking for a fun family day or days on July 21st and 22nd, we highly recommend this event.

We may even see you there……

Much love xx
